Microsoft Exchange 5.5: Publishing the Contents of the Public Folder
If appropriate, use the following procedure as the final step in restoring Microsoft Exchange 5.5 after a data corruption event.
Once you restore the Information Store, Outlook users will be able to see the
hierarchy of the public folders, but not the actual contents of the folders. You
must publish the restored contents to the hierarchy in the public folders. See
Microsoft Exchange 5.5 Restore for procedures for
restoring Exchange 5.5.
Important: This
procedure should only be implemented by personnel who are trained and experienced in
Windows and Exchange Server.
To publish the contents of the Public Folder
Open the Exchange Administrator.
In the Administrator window, select Servers
and then select the restored Exchange Server in the left pane.
Select Public Information Store.
Select File and then Properties. The
Public Information Store Properties dialog box opens.
Click the Instances tab.
In the Instances tab, you will see the contents of the public folders that were created on the restored
server displayed in the left column. To publish the contents so that the folders are populated with the contents,
you need to add the instances to the folder hierarchy displayed in the right column.
To add the instances of public folders, select the instance for each folder you want to
publish in the left column and click Add.
The public folder contents is published to the Information Store,
and it is now available to all Outlook users.
