Assigning Computers to a User

A user can access and manage only the set of computers that are assigned to the user. The user will see only the assigned computers on the All Computers form. If the user is assigned all computers for the company account, then all computers are shown. If the user is assigned a subset of the computers for the company account, then that subset of computers is shown. If the user has not been assigned any computers, the following message is displayed on the form:

There are no computers assigned to you to manage. Please contact another administrator to have computers assigned to you.

The actions that the user can perform on any assigned computer is dependent on the management capabilities assigned to the user. These capabilities are applied globally to all the user's assigned computers; they are not computer-specific.

To assign computers to a user

If the User Information form is already open, skip to step 3.

  1. Click Users on the MyLiveVault menu bar.

  2. On the Users Management form, select the user's name from the list of users, and click Edit.

  3. Click the Properties tab on the User Information form.

  4. Specify whether the user will be allowed to monitor and manage all computers or a subset of the computers for the company account:

    • If the user will be allowed to monitor and manage all of the company account's computers, click User can manage all computers. This user can access all computers. When a new computer is added, it is automatically assigned to the standard user.

    • If the user will be allowed to monitor and manage a subset of computers, click User can manage only these computers. This user's access is restricted to only those assigned computers. When a new computer is added, it must be assigned to a restricted user if that user is supposed to access and manage it.

  5. For a restricted user, select the check box next to each computer that you want to assign to this user.

    Note: The computer list shows only those computers that have been assigned to you (the logged in user). You can assign all or a subset of those computers to the user. You cannot assign other computers to the user. However, if someone else has assigned additional computers to this user (which have not also been assigned to you), then the text and others is displayed in the list.

  6. When you are done modifying the user's information, click Submit.
