Restoring an Entire Computer

Restoring an entire computer is referred to as a disaster recovery. You would perform a disaster recovery of your computer in the event of a machine failure or disaster such as:

  • Hard disk failure or corruption, requiring the system drive (usually C:) to be rebuilt.

  • The operating system cannot boot or has been corrupted.

  • Physical machine loss.

LiveVault Online Backup Service can restore only files, directories, Windows System States/registries, and metadata that have been backed up by LiveVault Online Backup Service. Ensure that your backup is configured to fully protect your computers and data.

To perform a successful disaster recovery, you must:

Important: To perform a disaster recovery, it is imperative that you contact Customer Service for assistance. You cannot perform a successful disaster recovery by restoring your data and the Windows System State/registry without our assistance.

Each disaster recovery procedure includes the following general steps:

  1. Contact Customer Service for assistance.

  2. Prepare the recovering system hardware for recovery.

  3. Install the operating system.

  4. Configure the recovering system.

  5. Install the service software, including the Agent software and digital certificates, on the recovering system. This step is only required if your data or System State/registry is being delivered over the Internet.

  6. Restore your data and System State/registry on the recovering system. If delivered on media, you will restore both from the media. If delivered over the Internet, Customer Service will restore the data then the System State/registry.

  7. Perform any additional required post-processing steps.

  8. Test the recovered system.

Note: The ability to restore the System State/registry on media may not be available to your Agent at this time. In this case, Customer Service will provide the Agent software for you to install and will restore the System State/registry over the Internet to your computer.
