Upgrading Your Agent Software

Before you download and upgrade the LiveVault Online Backup Service Agent software update on a computer, please be aware of the following requirements:

  • You can download the software to any location, and then copy it to your Agent computer that you want to upgrade. However, you must run the Setup program locally on the computer to be upgraded.

  • To upgrade the service software, you must log on to the computer using a Windows account with Administrator rights on the computer.

To download and upgrade the Agent software

  1. In MyLiveVault on the Home page, the All Computers form displays the names of your computers. If a newer version of the Agent software is available for a computer, one of the following messages is displayed below the computer name:

    • Update available. This message indicates that a newer version is available for you to download and install.

    • Update required! This message indicates that the version of the Agent software running on your computer must be upgraded to the newer version.

  2. Click the update message.

  3. On the Download and Upgrade the Service Software page, read what is new in the available version.

  4. To begin the download, click the  button.

  5. On the File Download dialog box, select a download option:

    1. If you are downloading the software directly to the computer you are upgrading, and you are logged on to the computer using a Windows account with Administrator rights, you can select the option Run this program from its current location. The self-extracting service software executable runs on your local system. Go to step 10 to continue the process.

    2. Otherwise, select the option Save this program to disk. The self-extracting service software executable is downloaded to your local system.

  6. Copy the self-extracting service software executable to the computer that will be upgraded.

  7. Log on to the computer using a Windows account with Administrator rights on the computer.

  8. Double-click the self-extracting service software executable that you downloaded.

  9. The software files will be unpacked in an installation folder. You may be prompted for a path for the installation folder. If you are prompted for a path, use the existing installation folder and then click Continue.

  10. The LiveVault Setup program starts running. Follow the instructions in the Setup program dialog boxes to upgrade the software. If you require help during the upgrade process, you can press the F1 key to view help for the displayed dialog box. If you require additional assistance, contact Customer Service.

  11. Restart the computer when prompted.

  12. After the computer restarts, the software running on your computer automatically connects to the LiveVault backup server. The upgrade of the service software is complete.
