Changing a Computer's Name

You can change an Agent computer's name in MyLiveVault if it makes it easier to identify your computer.

Important: If you do any of the following, your computer and LiveVault Online Backup Service will stop communicating because the existing digital certificates will be invalidated by the change:

  • Change your computer's name on your network (not just in MyLiveVault)

  • Change your computer's domain in your network

  • Remove your computer from its domain, then re-add it (even with the same name)

In these cases, we will need to generate new certificates and service software kit for you to download and install on your computer.

To change a computer's name

  1. On the MyLiveVault Home page, the All Computers form lists all the computers on your company account. Do one of the following:

    • Click Backup/Restore in the Action column for the computer whose name you want to change.

    • Click the name of the computer whose name you want to change if the Action column is displaying Pending Security Authorization, Install Software, or Configure Backup.

  2. On the Computer Information form, click the Properties tab.

  3. In the Computer Properties section, click Edit.

  4. On the Computer Properties form, type the new name for the computer in the Computer name box.

  5. Click Done.
