Limiting Backup Bandwidth Usage
By default, LiveVault Online Backup Service will use as much available network bandwidth as it needs to back up or restore your data.
However, LiveVault Online Backup Service lets you specify the maximum amount of network bandwidth that it may consume when backing up
data from a specific computer. For example, you may choose to set a limit
on backup bandwidth usage if bandwidth availability is limited during certain times.
LiveVault Online Backup Service will throttle its bandwidth usage to stay at or below the limit you
specify.
Note: LiveVault Online Backup Service does not measure bandwidth capacity.
This limit applies to all backup configurations for the computer; it cannot be applied to specific backup
configurations.
Also, you can specify a backup bandwidth limit only after backup has been configured for the
Agent computer.
To limit a computer's backup bandwidth usage
On the MyLiveVault Home page, the All Computers form lists all the computers
on your company account.
Do one of the following:
Click Backup/Restore in the Action column for the computer for which you want to limit backup bandwidth usage.
Click the name of the computer for which you want to limit
backup bandwidth usage if the Action column is displaying Pending Security Authorization,
Install Software, or Configure Backup.
On the Computer Information form, click the Properties tab.
In the Computer Properties section, click Edit.
On Computer Properties form,
use the
Limit maximum backup bandwidth usage to check box to specify whether you are placing a limit on the amount of bandwidth that LiveVault Online Backup Service
may use to back up the computer.
You can:
Clear this check box to use all available bandwidth during backup.
The text box displays (no limit).
Select this check box to specify that you want to limit the bandwidth that may be used during backup.
Then type in the text box the maximum amount of bandwidth in Kb/sec that may be used during backup.
Note: Setting this limit too low will result in your backups taking too
long. In this case, the Backup Latency chart will show excessive and growing
latency.
Important: Setting this limit below
128Kb/sec will not allow backups, in most installations, to complete.
Click Done.
