Modifying a Microsoft Exchange Backup Configuration (for version 3.6 or earlier)

This procedure applies to LiveVault Online Backup Service Agent version 3.6 or earlier. If you are running Agent version 4.0 or later, see Modifying a Microsoft Exchange Backup Configuration.

The process for modifying backup of Microsoft Exchange varies based on what you want to do:

  • Modify an existing Exchange backup configuration. If you have upgraded to a new version of Exchange on the computer, you must also specify the new version.

  • Create the first Exchange backup configuration for this computer.

Important: To accurately back up  Exchange, follow the guidelines in the appropriate procedure for your Exchange version:

To modify the existing Exchange backup configuration

Follow these steps to change the selected files or schedule for the existing Exchange backup configuration.

If you have upgraded to a new version of  Exchange on your computer, you must also specify the new Exchange version that is running on the computer. The existing Exchange configuration will automatically be renamed to reflect the new version. The prior file selection and schedule are retained; however, you need to modify them to accurately back up the new version.

  1. On the MyLiveVault Home page, the All Computers form lists all the computers on your company account. Click Backup/Restore in the Action column for the computer whose  Exchange backup configuration you want to modify.

  2. On the Computer Information form, click the Backup tab.

  3. In the Backup Configuration section, click Edit.

  4. On the Microsoft Exchange Backup form on the Change Configuration page, do one of the following:

    • If you are still running the same Exchange version on this computer, click Edit.

    • If you have upgraded to a new Exchange version on this computer,  select the option for the Exchange version you now want to back up. When prompted to confirm that you want to change your current Exchange backup configuration, click OK.

  5. The files and directories currently selected to be backed up or excluded from backup by this configuration are shown in the Files to Backup tab on the Computer Backup form. You can use either of these methods to modify which files and directories to back up:

  6. The current schedule for the Exchange backup configuration is displayed on the Schedule tab. You can modify this schedule.

  7. When you are done modifying the backup configuration, click Save.

  8. Review the information in the Computer Backup form's Properties and Specifications columns

  9. Do one of the following:

    • Click Submit to accept the modified backup configuration.

    • Click Back to make additional changes to the configuration.

    • Click Cancel if you do not want to modify the configuration.

  10. At the bottom of the Change Configuration page (not in a form), click Done.

If you specified a new version of Exchange to back up, the name of the configuration is automatically changed.

If you modified the file selections for the backup configuration, LiveVault Online Backup Service stops the backup for this configuration and restarts it using the new file selections. Because the file selections changed, the computer will be in an initial synchronization state again in which only the files selected for the first time will be backed up in full (that is, files that were previously selected are not backed up in full again). When the initial synchronization completes, the primary technical contact will be notified by e-mail.

If you modified the schedule, schedule options, or backup type, these changes are implemented as soon as possible.

To create an Exchange backup configuration

Follow these steps to create a new configuration for Exchange, for example, if you have added Exchange to the computer after configuring initial backup.

  4. On the Microsoft Exchange Backup form on the Change Configuration page, select the option for the Exchange version you want to back up.

  5. When prompted to confirm your selection, click OK.

  6. In the Files to Backup tab on the Computer Backup form, specify the files and directories associated with Exchange. You can use either of these methods to specify the files:
