digital certificate
An electronic identity issued by a trusted third-party, called a Certificate Authority, which in effect verifies your identity. When you add a computer to LiveVault Online Backup Service, digital certificates are created for and issued to that individual computer, and are installed during the Agent software setup. The Internet Gateway and backup servers that receive the Agent computer's data also have their own unique digital certificates. These digital certificates enable the Agent computer and its associated Internet Gateway and backup servers to authenticate their identities to each other and to certify that they are to be trusted before they exchange data.
Directory Service Restore Mode (DSRM)
DSRM is a Microsoft Windows safe mode. When performing a disaster recovery for an Agent running Windows 2000 Server or Advanced Server, Windows Server 2003, or Windows XP, it is recommended that you use DSRM mode. By using DSRM mode, you do not have to install the Service Pack and hotfixes that were running on the Agent system prior to the recovery; instead they are recovered during the restore.
disaster recovery
A disaster recovery is a response to a declared disaster or a regional disaster. It is the restoration or recovery of an entire Agent computer. As part of a disaster recovery, the Agent computer is rebuilt, and operating systems installed and configured. The Agent software may be reinstalled (if the disaster recovery restores are delivered over the Internet). Then the Agent computer's data and Windows System State/registry is restored, either over the Internet or to physical media which is delivered to the client at their normal site of operations or a designated alternate site. I

include
To specify that the selected file or directory is to be backed up or restored. See also exclude.
initial backup
See initial synchronization.
initial synchronization
The first time data is backed up from an Agent computer to the backup server. Initial synchronization occurs the first time the client configures backup for a newly added computer. During the initial synchronization, a copy of each file and directory selected to be backed up is replicated to the backup server, creating an exact image of the files and file structure. The initial synchronization runs until the first copy of all data selected for backup has been replicated to the backup server. Depending on the amount of data that you are backing up and the bandwidth available from your computer, this can take from several hours to multiple days. Later, when you modify which files get backed up by existing configurations, an initial synchronization occurs of only those files which have not been previously backed up by any configuration. See also backup configuration, replicate, synchronize/synchronization.
